Pekka Oinas

Prof. Pekka Oinas has more than 25 years of experience in chemical industry R&D and particularly in process development encompassing management, assessment, development and de-sign of processes to plant scale, chemical reaction engineering, safety design, process model-ling, plant start-up and technological support of production. He has contributed more than 70 scientific publications and patents. Prof. Oinas is responsible of an interdisciplinary major program of Aalto University concerning advanced energy solutions. The research group of Plant design concentrates on techno-economic feasibility assessments, design concepts for biorefineries, inherent safety of processes, industrial symbiosis, and scale-up of processes and unit operations. He has been responsible various commercialization projects in Aalto, including Ioncell for sustainable textiles, LignoSphere for colloidal lignin particle applications and HydroCel for carboxylated nanocelluloses. When the first Kokkola Material week was launched in 2012, prof. Oinas was in charge of the inititation and the event.
