About the event

The international Kokkola Material Week offers annual high-level coverage of current research and development prospects in chemicals, bioeconomy, mineral economy, critical raw materials and renewable energy.

The seminar programme addresses topical themes related to industry, sustainability, innovation, and value chains, bringing together experts from research, business, and policy. While many themes connect to material science, the event also explores broader perspectives such as industrial development, the security of supply of critical raw materials, and the transition of the renewable energy sector. The main language of the event is English, and participation is free of charge.

A significant number of companies representing state-of-the-art chemical expertise are concentrated in Kokkola, making the City of Kokkola Scandinavia’s most significant concentration of inorganic chemistry. The area’s innovation ecosystem covers everything from education and basic research to R&D and commercialization services for businesses, supporting growth across advanced industry, critical raw materials value chains, and renewable energy technologies.
